The Shining by Stephen King

The Shining is an astonishing novel by Stephen King.

The successful author had already written Carrie and Salem´s Lot, but it was with The Shining that Stephen King became famous all over the world.

Apparently, the story is a simple one, a couple and its child spend a winter in a hotel -The Overlook- in Colorado Mountains, isolated by the snow.

On one hand, he problems will appear as we know about the past of husband and wife -his alcoholism-, at the same time that we discover the history of The Overlook -mafia murders, strange customers.


On the other hand, the child shines, so he can see facts from the past right now in the present, and he is also able to ask for help mentally.

A snowy winter is too long, and Colorado Mountains are too far away from anywhere when the past enter the mind of an ex-alcoholic writer in trouble.

The only way out for wife and son is child´s mind power.

Stanley Kubrick´s film was a huge success. And Jack Nicholson was perfect as the husband who quietly suffers a nervous breakdown and he finally drives all the family crazy.
